A bumper week for the start of Royal Ascot

The Guv'nor prepares Eanans Bay for Ted Durcan at first lot

A lovely morning to be outside. It’s a mixture of sunshine, blue sky and not much wind. We have been over Racecourse Side at first lot with the workers and everything moved smoothly on the very good surface Across the Flat. The horses are all in great shape and although we shan’t have too many runners this week I am sure we shall have some good performances  when they do go.

Shomberg was disappointing yesterday at Wolverhampton. He never got into it at any stage, and I shall be having a good think about where we go next. He always gives me the impression he is capable of winning races and I just need to get everything right with him.

Royal Ascot starts with a bang today as Frankel runs in the first race at 2:30. What a great start to the meeting and what a week it's going to be. Phil and I have given you our tips for today below;  I am sure we will be in credit if we can come up with a few as some of the prices are sure to be good. The ground looks to be drying up well which will suit some horses and we need to watch the draw, too, as this will play a major part all week. I must say, apart from the first race today, it’s a very tricky card.
