Blinka Me and Imjin River

Smokey Oakey and Cornish Beau

A warmish, muggy morning here at Newmarket but, at least, we do not have the sea fret that we had yesterday at Yarmouth. My travelling lads, who went there this morning, say that it is still there and to bring my mac with me, as the wind is whipping in from the sea.

Theola and Dulcie

Not a bad day yesterday with Fasette managing to get her head in front, in fact, she did it quite well, winning by five lengths. A good result for the syndicate, that there was no bid for her afterwards, at the auction but the sting in the tale was that Ashley got two days for careless riding. I thought that he gave it a good ride, as she is a great, big, long and gangly filly, who had never been in front before and just ran about when hitting the front. We will not reallly mention Watch Chain, who was too free for his own good and will not be wearing blinkers again. The other two runners , Comrade Bond and Miss Wendy had bad draws but both ran creditably (Comrade Bond was third) and both will be winning shortly.

Today, we have three runners at Yarmouth. Our first is at 4.25pm, Astroleo, who, as we know is ultra-genuine and consistent and will be doing his utmost today but this looks a tricky affair, saying that, I am hopeful, of an enclosure finish. Red Barcelona is in the next at 5.00pm, the mile and six furlong handicap; he has shown ability this year and I have always liked him. I will be hoping for an improved run on a track that will suit. Finally, in the 5.30pm, Kathleen Francis runs in the mile and three furlong handicap; she is starting to get the idea this season, as she is a big backward filly and this track should suit her but there are several improvers in this race; I am hopeful again of her putting up a very good show.
