'Study the past if you would define the future'.

It's the first lovely morning we've had for a long time and let's hope it's the start of a good spell. All the horses have been out on the heath and had a good couple of canters on Bury Side. It was nearly 'take your coat off' weather!

Our two runners last night both got bogged down in the ground at Pontefract. The ground had changed from good to soft in the morning to soft with heavy patches after the first race, which meant it was bottomless! The two-year-old hated it, but kept going well and now will be handicapped. I am sure once we get her on fast ground over a mile she will start to earn her keep. Lady Bellatrix hated every minute; she was a bit keen early on and is another that will be seen to better effect once we get her back on better ground and maybe over a shorter distance.

We have one runner today at Ripon, Top Tempo in the 3.40pm mile and a half handicap. The ground hopefully will be good enough for her. This is the first time she runs in a handicap and I just hope she handles this undulating course.

I went on from Pontefract to stay at Garrowby and had a good walk around the stud this morning with Alan and Tina. The horses look absolute pictures, even though it has not stopped raining there for two months. We hope to have some photos from there next week.
