It was misty first thing and it has taken nearly to second lot for the sun to burn off the cloud cover and shine through. Yesterday was a boiling hot day and I think it will be very similar today. Courses are starting to water - it's amazing how quickly the ground dries up. All the horses have had two good canters and with the gentle breeze it's been a very pleasant morning.

We have one runner today at Bath. Astroleo in the mile and five handicap at 5.00. He has not run for over a year but has done plenty of work this spring and, although he may be ring rusty, he has always been very genuine and consistent and is sure to show this again today. I expect a good run and the race will put him spot on for the future.

I don't think the metric experiment has gone down too well. I thought one of the best comments in the Racing Post today was from the gentleman who stated that Racing for Change had been in their hidey-hole all year and have got to do something. He is quite right . Where do these ideas come from?

Our yard and stud are in great form with the cricket bat and ball. We have a team in the competition this year called Last Man Standing, an eight-a-side cricket match with different rules which are quite hard to follow. Well captained last night by David, our travelling lad, we cruised to an easy victory over Sir Michael Stoute's side. Both David and Ackram, from the stud, scored 50 not out.
