A dull, overcast morning and quite cool but still no rain. We took horses over to the watered gallop again and even that is starting to get a bit firmer. We also have had plenty of horses in the swimming pool - it is amazing how they take to it and all have their individual swimming styles. With the ground like it has been, the pool has been invaluable this last month.

Fasette was a bit disappointing last night at Leicester but she did not take to the firmer ground and was constantly chopping and changing her legs; also it was the other way round to Yarmouth and, as I always say, it is a learning curve with these horses, I am sure, once, I get her back on to better ground and a left-handed track, we can leave last night's poor run behind her.

Tonight we run two at Newmarket, where I think someone called Jedward is playing afterwards, so there will be a lot of screaming, spiky-haired adolescents, streaming through the gates, I suppose. Izzet runs in the six furlong maiden; he is making his debut tonight and the experience will do him the power of good, as he is a big, strong, scopey colt, who has always pleased me and, I am sure, he has a future. In the last, we run Imjin River, who ran no sort of race last time at Leicester but I can see him bouncing back to form tonight, if my orders are obeyed.

Day four of Ascot and the totals are MHT minus £10.12 and Phil minus £9.24. A few near misses again yesterday and I am kicking myself for not putting Dermot Weld's Rite of Passage in, who won the Gold Cup at 20-1. Only the day before, he had been telling me how keen he was to run and was looking for the clerk of the course to make sure he put enough water on. He must have found him, as everything obviously went to plan, except me tipping it!

Today's tips are below:

2.30: Crying Lightening - MHT, Margot Did - Phil

3.05: At First Sight - MHT, Bullet Train - Phil

3.50: Chachamaidee - MHT, Sent From Heaven - Phil

4.25: Rainbow Peak - MHT and Phil

5.00: Icon Dream - MHT, Total Command - Phil

5.35: Day Of The Day - MHT, Dance And Dance - Phil
