Go to Kempton or Wolverhampton and then you will see what racing is really like ...

Quite a cool wind this morning

''In ordinary life, we hardly realize that we receive a great deal more than we give and, that it is only with gratitude, that life becomes rich.''

Quite a cool wind this morning but again no rain and the wind will be drying everywhere up very quickly; a few showers are forecast but they are now talking about a long dry spell again. Everything has been doing just a nice canter and having a quiet pick of grass.

Yesterday's two runners at Newmarket were reasonably satisfactory, the ground was pretty fast but with no jar. The two year old, who is a great big horse showed ability until getting tired inside the final furlong; he will definitely be okay and improve considerably as the year goes on. Imjin River saw much too much daylight and might want a flat track, rather than the undulations of the July course.

Today we have three runners, starting at Royal Ascot with Mystery Star in the Duke of Edinburgh Stakes at 5.00pm. He is a tough, consistent horse, who ran really well last time at York and I have put the cheek pieces back on just to give him a little extra edge. This is a very competitive race, as usual but, if he can get some luck in running, he could make the frame today. This afternoon at Newmarket in the 4.30pm, we introduce Prince Freddie in the seven furlong maiden, he is a horse full of potential and is another one of ours, who will benefit greatly from today's outing. Finally, at Lingfield tonight in the 7.50pm, we run Captain Clint, who ran poorly here last time but that was on the grass and this is on the all-weather, which should suit him better and he is another who could make the frame.

What a dreadful performance last night by the England football team: here, we have a bunch of overpaid, pampered young men, who have absolutely no idea what they are doing or where they are going. All the expensive preparation counts for nothing when you get on the field but tactics, teamwork, effort and enthusiasm are what are needed now and an understanding of what is required to win at this level. When the manager cannot talk English and communicate properly with the players, whether it is pre-match, half-time or afterwards, we have no hope. Sheffield Wednesday reserves would have given Algeria a better game and, at least, put more effort in!

It is the final day at Royal Ascot and what a fantastic week it has been, Phil's and my tipping competition is going down to the wire but you would not really mind only being down what we are after four days and having to bet win-only on every race. Today's selections are below and the current standings are, MHT minus £13.49 and Phil minus £12.61.

2.30: Zaidan - MHT, Jackaroo - Phil

3.05: Harbinger - MHT and Phil

3.50: Happy Zero - MHT, High Standing - Phil

4.25: Laddies Poker Two - MHT, Masamah - Phil

5.00: Mystery Star - MHT and Phil
