A very warm morning already and it feels like the hottest day of the year so far. There does not seem to be any rain forecast and the best chance in this heat must be a good thunderstorm. The horses have been having one good canter and a pick of grass after the work yesterday; if nothing else, this weather is perfect for the horses to spend some time, enjoying the benefits of the lush grass.

Both yesterday's runners arrived home safely with the ground being plenty firm enough for Force Group at Newbury, especially coming back from a long lay-off; he is bound to come on considerably for the run. Comrade Bond was unable to progress from his Kempton run but Brighton is an unique course and many horses struggle to handle its undulations, as they become unbalanced running downhill.

Brushing runs up at Carlisle in the Cumberland Plate at 3.35pm; she is a course winner and has the assistance of Kieren Fallon in this valuable race today. This filly has been a model of consistency but she is going into the unknown as far as trip is concerned and the ground will be firmer than she has been encountering, nevertheless she tries so hard that we are hoping for a big run from her.

Let us hope that Fabio Capello has got the brains sorted out of these players this afternoon, as the country deserves better than it has been getting from the last two matches. Brushing runs 35 minutes into the first half, so we may have to miss those last few minutes, which may or may not be a good thing. This is a match we need to win and win convincingly, so all I can say is ' Come on boys, give us your all'.
