It just goes on and on, this hot, dry spell

It just goes on and on this hot, dry spell and thank goodness that we have the pool and the all-weather canters, as we can keep everything on the go without putting too much stress and strain on the horses' joints and knees. The ground at the tracks is so firm that, even with their watering, I am sure that there will be a lot of jarred-up horses after racing. The problem is, once they are jarred-up, it takes for ever for them to start moving correctly again; so, that is the reason why I am very particular and patient about running most of my horses.

Quite a lot of news and editorial in the racing press this week about the Levy, picture rights' income, 'Racing for Change' introducing some more scatter-brain schemes and the sale of the Tote, plus rules for owners about laying their own horses. Everybody is getting to the stage where something has got to happen; it has been lingering for over thirty years, which is as long as I have been training and nothing has been done about it or if they have it has got nowhere. The time is getting near when some heads need knocking together and to get the finances, which is the only thing wrong with racing, sorted out but don't hold your breath!
