We had a shower of rain this morning, which lasted about a minute but let us hope that it is the start of a deluge - I very much doubt it though. Phil's weather website says that there is no real rain forecast for the next several days. I took two batches of horses over to Racecourse side to work on the watered gallop, which has been moved, once again, onto some very nice ground - it was like galloping on a carpet. It is such a shame that it costs so much that the racecourses cannot get it as perfect as this.

I see the BHA are starting to trim costs with the reduction of the Levy. It is about time because things are really coming to a head now with the finances in the industry: minimum race values are dropping and we, as an industry, are in dire straits if the finances cannot be sorted out. The bookmakers and Betfair situation will need legislation passing to sort them out but this all takes a long time and trying to convince everybody of the rights and wrongs of the situation is nearly impossible. The racecourses who are, now and in the future, going to get major funding from their picture rights are the ones that are going to have to up the anti with the prize money and guarantee minimum levels. This will, at least, keep everybody on an even keel and allow the industry to continue until other revenue streams are sorted out. I see a ten point plan to sort out English football in the Daily Telegraph today, so I will be doing my own ten point plan for racing tomorrow.
