Another dry and warm morning and it looks like being the same all week but there has been a bit of rain in the north and north-west; however, in East Anglia, it has been ideal weather for vineyards and olive groves. They may even be sprouting up as we speak but, as the saying goes, ' it is either famine or feast' and I can feel floods coming shortly.

There will be very few runners this week with possibly some at the weekend, as both Dazinsky and Theola do not mind the fast ground; saying that every time I enter Dazinsky it pours, so that is probably the best way to make it rain. I am told there have been plenty of horses in the vets this last fortnight with injuries caused by the ground, so our policy of being careful is, I am sure, the right one.

Wimbledon was a bit predictable this year but it was great to see Nadal back from injury and his plan of taking plenty of time to recover fully was, obviously, the right one. Rather than muddle along, he has given his knees the time they required to recover, which is very similar to horse injuries - the more time you can give them the better.

Great to see Newmarket win the Eclipse and that the winners keep flowing from the Heath. It is the big Newmarket July meeting this week and the town is starting to fill up already with visitors from all over the world. There is top- class racing all week (I am very much against moving the July Cup to a Saturday next year, as it will cause a massive clash with the John Smith's Magnet Cup at York) but the ground will be pretty firm and it will be interesting to see how the draw works out. The sales also start on Tuesday and will be going on all week; we have our draft going through on Friday morning and there are several, which will suit all different spheres. There are always plenty of foreigners who come for this sale and there will be horses going to every corner of the globe afterwards.

We have a job vacancy up at Garrowby Stud. This is a full-time position and accomodation is available. It would suit somebody wanting to learn all about every aspect of stud work and requires somebody, who is dedicated and prepared to work hard to get somewhere. There is also a part-time vacancy for someone who lives locally with flexi-hours.
