Locum at exercise

REPORT BY JENKO - 2ND MAY

"The ground going against us is the reason we have had only the one runner since the last report, and sorry to say Fortunes Maid did not perform with any enthusiasm at Southwell. Mark, like the rest of us, was very disappointed and will run her again soon in a lower grade and wearing blinkers to see if that brings out any improvement.

Fortunes Maid and No Rules walking in after exercise

"Locum is in great form at home and is just waiting for some decent ground before he runs; the same applies to No Rules who will step up to a mile and two furlongs at least on his next visit to the track.

"Creative looks a picture and like the other two has a lot of possibles marked off in the next few weeks.

Four Miracles and Darryll Holland on a recent work morning

"Four Miracles continues to impress Mark at home and is ready to run anytime now. It seems likely that our first syndicate winner will come from the four mentioned above, but it is hard to say which one.

"It is great to have the two fillies Peggle and Supera back from Garrowby both look really well and are trotting in the indoor ride. As Mark steps up their work I will of course keep you all informed.

"And finally Jacobite Prince has grown a bit on us says Mark so we will just have to go easy with him for the next week or so. It is just like a child who suddenly shoots up and needs a bit of time to strengthen. He is still cantering though and looks a lovely colt in the making.

"I feel sure that conditions being fine I may see some of you racing later next week, I hope so. Thank you for the orders for my book (extracts published in the last report) after which I have now increased the print run to six."

Update in April: "This colt looks to be one of our more forward two-year-olds and hopefully will have a run in May - ideal for anyone looking for immediate entertainment on the racetrack!"

"Strong, attractive filly and half-sister to 5 winners, from a very fast family, she is now cantering well on the heath and showing plenty of promise. A real two-year-old type, she should give us a lot of fun in 2008!" (January 2008)

One of the pioneers of multiple ownership, Mark Tompkins is continuing his successful syndicates in 2008. One-twelfth shares in horses are available, and we keep things simple.

HOW WE OPERATE

  • All net prize-money won and the proceeds of any sale are divided proportionately between members.
  • Our owners are welcome to visit the yard to see their horses in training on Wednesdays and Saturdays.
  • One complimentary owners' badge is guaranteed per member when your horse runs.
  • There is no limit to the number of shares an individual, or group of people, can hold.
  • Some members have been with us since the 1980s which is testament in itself to the enjoyment these syndicates bring.

Once a twelfth share has been purchased, a monthly payment of £170 to be paid retrospectively (starting from January 1st 2008) is required to cover all keep costs. A discount of 10% is offered for a full year's payment in advance and a 5% discount on future purchases for anyone introducing a new owner.

There will be nothing more to pay, other than in exceptional circumstances such as travel to race abroad or unusual veterinary bills. The monthly payment covers basic training costs, insurance for original yearling purchase price (against mortality), entry fees, travel to meetings, jockey fees, farrier's charges etc.

It is the responsibility of each individual member to sell his or her share if they wish to leave the syndicate, although obviously we would help with this as far as possible. If payments are not received for two successive months the share will be deemed to have lapsed, and will be lost with no refund or prize share due.

We are a friendly lot at Flint Cottage Stables, and Mark is always approachable at the races or at home.
